Believing that animation is able to summarize and make even difficult concepts more understandable to large audiences, Bozzetto decided with Piero Angela, in the 1980s, to create some one hundred movies for the Quark television broadcast. In these movies, science popularization marries Bozzetto’s animations by dealing with some of the scientific topics that most interest and intrigue the audience. The short animations featured here are divided into three different areas. The first section includes three titles, In search of jealousy, A bubble that harms nobody, Into a fury, and briefly describes the causes andbehaviors of some common sensations and feelings. The second section deals with three important issues of modern physics, and includes Quantum Mechanics, On Board of Space-Time, Science and Method. On Board of Space-Time, in particular, provides the audience with a very brief but clarifying introduction to the key concepts of the theory of relativity and its apparent paradoxes.The last three titles, The Time Machine, The Ancestors of Chromosomes, Gene yes- Gene no, deal with genetics (note that when the movies were created, cloning was not being discussed).
Thanks to these television works, Bozzetto won, in 1992, the “Gold Medal” in Marburg and “Prize for Scientific Popularization” in Verona.
