Anna Magnani plays a former prostitute coming back from the great Naples to her native island, precisely Volcano. Here only her sister and her younger brother welcome her, and she tries in any way to make a fresh start working hard. Rossano Brazzi is a shady-looking diver, Maddalena’s sister falls in love with, in spite of the attempts of dissuasion by the former prostitute. To help her sister, Maddalena gets herself into trouble and voluntarily loses her life, tormented by the remorse, during the volcanic eruption. Nice underwater shootings.
