After breaking up with his girlfriend, Mark Zuckerberg, a brilliant IT student at Harvard, creates overnight a data base with the names of all female undergraduates. The idea is to use it to find a new fiancée. Once discovered, he risks expulsion, but then manages to come through with a fine for hacking the university system. With this he gains popularity and starts to work on the creation of the social network now known as Facebook, which soon achieves huge world success and makes the young student a billionaire. However, success brings along lots of enemies. The director shows how, paradoxically, a young man with relational disorders could conceive a social instrument to influence, and actually change, our communicating mode. The movie offers a picture of a time - the present one - when technology plays a role of growing significance, revolutionizing our way of living, of relating with each other, and even of making friends.
The film was awarded 4 Golden Globe and 3 Academy Awards 2011: Best Writing (adapted screenplay), Best Film Editing, Best Music.
