Four Seasons and More … is a scientific and artistic video project on the border between natural science, art and music, whereby different chemical and physical microscale experiments and beautiful photos of the natural world form a harmonious unit along with suitable classical music.
The purpose of the project is to show people who are not very knowledgeable about science how great subject matters like chemistry, biology and physics can be. For this reason the video only consists of images, sequences and music. There is no narration - rather than explaining concepts, the focus here is on stimulating curiosity, wonder and emotions. Many effects are made possible by the use of suitable, common digital video software: the accurate adjustment of the speed of the experiment to the beat of the music; time-lapse shots; colour adjustments, contrast reinforcement, repetitions and cross-fades.
The experiments show crystallisations, simple and complex self-assembling structures, fluorescence, electrolysis, and much more. They are arranged in such a way as to mimick the seasons, from spring to winter and include phenomena like thunderstorm, waves, fog, or sunset. The whole video is about 45 minutes long. Only the five-minute section on whirls will be screened at the Festival.
