Despite being used to travelling to faraway places, modern man – represented by a boat in the video – is part of a world he shares with the rest of mankind. Protecting the sea means having peace of mind in a not-too-distant future. A joint effort is clearly called for: individual men, nations, or continents cannot by themselves solve the host of problems brought about by modern development, the chaotic expansion of industrial production to the detriment of the environment, the sometimes careless and uncivilized use of our seas. A solution might be close at hand, but it has to be reached through “a new international effort for the common good”.
At a time when people are becoming increasingly aware of the social relevance of the issues covered by the media, a group of primary school students were asked to realise a commercial for the promotion of socially correct behaviour.
Supervised by their teacher, the young students devised a stepwise approach to the task at hand. First the analyzed the messages conveyed by the television and selected a theme from a list of topics which they thought were the most informative, educational and conducive to social behaviour. Next they storyboarded and filmed the commercial in the school’s Apple multimedia lab, using the cartoons technique and original footage only (no archive material). Copyright-free mp3s provided the soundtrack for the commercial.
