15 minutes in the electron’s life is the story of the discovery of the electron and of its wave-like properties. This documentary shows the main stages of the discovery: gas discharges, the mass/charge ratio, cathode rays, the photoelectric effect which won Einstein the physics Nobel prize and the determination of the electronic charge. The second part deals with Rutherford’s first experiments, which tried to ascertain the planetary atomic structure of a positive nucleus surrounded by electrons, and with the quantum model proposed by Bohr which could finally explain the emission and absorption atomic spectra. The documentary ends with the explanation of the wave-particle duality of matter discovered by De Broglie. Many difficult conceptions are made clear with the help of beautiful computer animations.
