The telescope, installed again about ten years ago in its own original dome of the Brera Observatory, was carefully restored in 1997-98, in order to revive its beauty and, above all, its functionality, with the aim to restore it to the conditions of use of Schiaparelli's time.
The restoration was made by Domenico Gellera and Nello Paolucci.
The instrument was in a very bad state of conservation: the photographic documentation preceding the restoration bears witness to this fact.
The electrification, introduced at the beginning of the 20th century, was removed; the instrument was completely disassembled, every piece was identified, cleaned and straightened; the lost elements, essential to its functioning, were rebuilt: steps and details of the restoration were carefully documented.
The original dome was restored too: together with the instrument, it evokes important astronomical ventures and is today a suggestive place where to perform an activity of diffusion of scientific culture.
